Our client is a leader in the global commodities sector with an incredibly rich heritage.


They are seeking a talented and experienced General Counsel to join their dynamic team. In this broad executive role, you will provide comprehensive legal support and strategic direction across all areas of the business within all jurisdictions in which they operate, ensuring the business operates at the highest standards.


About the Role:

  • Proactively support the business’ goals, growth and reputation through timely legal and governance services.
  • Lead on negotiating complex legal matters impacting various areas of the business, including providing legal advisory and legal affairs, litigation, and the management of claims handling for the group.
  • Provide legal guidance on metals trading, including iron ore, copper, aluminium, and nickel.
  • Support structured commodity finance transactions, inventory financing, collateralised arrangements, and related commercial structures.
  • Responsibility for the legal compliance of all group companies, including

compliance with applicable UK, EU, Swiss and Asian regulatory frameworks.

  • Maintain trusted relationships with regulators, trade bodies, financial institutions, and major counterparties.
  • Oversight of ESG and sustainability governance in line with internal commitments and broader market expectations.


Who You Are:

  • A seasoned legal leader with a minimum of 10+ years of experience in both private practice and in-house roles.
  • Extensive experience in physical commodities trading, metals markets, or global trade finance. In addition to major disputes, arbitrations and complex negotiations.
  • Experience in dealing with International regulatory frameworks relevant to commodity markets.
  • Knowledge of the global iron ore, metals, and energy‑transition supply chains is desirable.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a proven ability to manage complex issues and teams and subject matter experts in high growth market environments.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills.
  • Strategic thinking with a keen eye for future trends.
  • Entrepreneurial and results-oriented with a “get things done” attitude.
