GENERAL FOREMAN / SITE MANAGER – CANAL REBUILD PROJECT (MAJOR UK CONTRACTOR)
A leading UK main contractor is seeking an experienced General Foreman / Site Manager to support the rebuild of a canal infrastructure scheme. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role on a technically challenging earthworks project within a well-established delivery team.
The Role
You will take responsibility for day-to-day site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, and to the highest quality standards. The project involves significant earthworks, canal bank reconstruction, and associated civil engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities

Overseeing earthworks operations including excavation, embankments, compaction, and reinstatement
*
Managing and coordinating trades, plant, subcontractors, and direct labour on site
*
Ensuring strict adherence to health & safety regulations and company procedures
*
Monitoring programme progress and reporting to senior management
*
Conducting site briefings, toolbox talks, and inductions
*
Ensuring quality control and compliance with specifications
*
Liaising with engineers, planners, and stakeholders to maintain smooth site operations
Requirements
*
Proven experience as a General Foreman or Site Manager within civil engineering
*
Strong background in earthworks and infrastructure projects (canal, highways, flood defence or similar)
*
Experience managing multiple trades and site labour
*
SMSTS or SSSTS (SMSTS preferred)
*
First Aid at Work
*
CSCS card
*
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
