General Practice Nurse Roles- Trainee, Experienced and Advanced Practice

New Today

At AMG in Forth Valley, we are expanding our talented and dynamic general practice nurse team and are interested to receive applications from advanced GPN's preferably with prescribing qualifications. Developing the general practice nursing role in integrated community nursing teams - gov.scot (www.gov.scot) . We work collaboratively across close knit multi professional teams to provide quality health care to the populations we serve. We have GP clinical leads and Nurse consultants supporting our work and have regular education for our team and personal development. In order to enhance our existing team, we are inviting applications for General Practice Nurses (GPNs) at all stages of their career to join our vibrant, skilled, multi-disciplinary team.

AMG aims to enable communities to have healthy lives, by providing high quality, innovative and sustainable primary care services delivered by motivated and engaged teams. We recognise the central role of the general practice nurse within this goal and offer our nurses the opportunity to develop to their true potential. Our Forth Valley Practices have 28,500 patients across four sites in Falkirk, Alloa, Bannockburn and Grangemouth. We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals with an interest in the management of long-term conditions, health promotion, cervical screening, and women’s health. The role is varied and the ability to work independently, with a flexible approach and excellent communication skills is essential. To meet service and training needs our nurses in Forth Valley can be asked at times to work at any of our four sites but we are currently looking to recruit nurses with a main base at Bannnockburn (Stirling). Where needed cross site working offers you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with our patients, sites and members of our wider team.

We are committed to Continued Professional Development and have successfully supported two nurses new to GPN to train into the role by supporting them to complete NHS Education for Scotland (NES) training, work towards advanced practice skills and by providing daily in-house mentoring. We are building an MS Teams knowledge and education sharing platform and we each have a professional development plan, regular huddles, and yearly appraisal. On a daily basis learning takes place across our teams where we all seek to share and support each other with our collective knowledge.

Opportunity for career development at AMG is excellent and we are particularly keen to hear from level 7 Advanced General Practice Nurses. We already have two of these nurses who provide leadership and mentoring within the GPN team, expertise on long term conditions across our wider multidisciplinary team as well as delivering clinical care for both acute and long-term conditions. This role enables nurses with expertise in both ANP and GPN roles to bring them together and deliver a level of excellence in care. At times we work as complex needs managers helping people with multimorbidity access the care they need within the team and wider secondary care setting. We are closely following and supporting work by the Scottish Government to develop general practice nurses who work at an advanced level and if you join our team, you can be part of this movement as well as having the opportunity to fully develop your areas of interest and expertise.

We aim to provide flexible working arrangements to suit your personal circumstances and promote a good work-life balance. You will be supported by a complement of Administrative staff, Office Supervisor and an expanding multi-disciplinary team including GPs, ANPs, Paramedics, Physician Associates, GPNs, Healthcare Assistants, MSK Practitioners, Primary Care Mental Health Nurses and Pharmacists.
