Job Description
Our Ground Engineering specialists play a vital role in delivering some of the UK's most complex and high-profile infrastructure projects. As workload continues to grow, we are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join a dynamic and expanding team based in Manchester or Motherwell.\n\nYou'll work across a wide range of sectors including Rail, Highways, Power, Defence, Aviation, Life Sciences, and Water, contributing to technical delivery while supporting junior engineers and helping develop innovative, integrated ground engineering solutions.\n\nWhat you'll be doing\n\nDelivering geotechnical design and specification packages from concept through to completion\nDeveloping ground models and deriving characteristic geotechnical parameters\nPreparing desk studies, ground investigation specifications, and interpretative reports\nDesigning shallow and piled foundations, retaining structures, soil nails, and earthworks\nTackling complex ground conditions such as soft ground, slope instability, mine workings, and marginal materials\nSupervising ground investigations and providing site-based technical support when required\nWorking collaboratively within multidisciplinary design teams\nRepresenting the business at client meetings and technical design discussions\nEnsuring compliance with relevant standards including EC7, British Standards, CDM, and H&S requirementsWhat we're looking for\n\nA degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology (or equivalent)\nProgress toward professional chartership (ICE, Geological Society, or similar); MSc or PhD advantageous\nFull UK driving licence\nProven experience within a design consultancy environment\nStrong geotechnical design background covering foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, and slope stability\nGood understanding of UK ground conditions and investigation practices\nExperience using geotechnical design software (GEO5 desirable)\nStrong technical reporting and communication skills\nA collaborative, solution-oriented approach\nPTS certification desirable but not essential\nWillingness to travel occasionally for short-term UK site work \n\nSecurity clearance\n\nMany roles are subject to security clearance requirements.
