Global Consumer L/S Analyst – Hedge Fund, London

Overview

A London hedge fund is hiring a Consumer Long/Short Analyst to join a growing team with a global focus. The role offers direct partnership with a senior Portfolio Manager and the opportunity to help build a dedicated Consumer sleeve. This position offers real responsibility, and a flexible investment mandate.

Role Overview

• Coverage includes a 300+ stock global universe across Global Consumer Staples & Discretionary.
• The successful candidate will take ownership of subsectors and contribute ideas into both the Consumer sleeve and wider firm portfolios.
• The sleeve has significant capital backing and strong growth potential.

Investment Approach

• Fundamental, bottom-up stock picking
• Detailed modelling and deep research
• Concentrated portfolio (10–40 positions, balanced long/short)
• Flexible mandate with no requirement to stay fully invested. No rigid risk constraints.
• Typical 2–3 year view on a stock, with the flexibility to be tactical
• Thematic idea generation where relevant
• Strong internal investment in AI and data tools

Responsibilities

• Generate long and short ideas across global consumer names, can include pairs, not essential
• Build and maintain detailed financial models
• Meet management teams and key industry stakeholders
• Help develop data infrastructure to identify dislocations from consensus
• Contribute actively to stock picks and sleeve construction decision-making

Candidate Profile

• 4+ years’ buy and/or sell-side experience (buy-side experience is desired, not essential)
• Strong Consumer sector knowledge
• Excellent modelling and analytical skills
• Self-starter with desire to learn and develop
• Collaborative, thoughtful, and comfortable challenging ideas
• Strong interpersonal skills
