Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer - Data Centres
Location: Manchester
Sector: Data Centre and Critical Infrastructure Design & Build
Are you a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate looking to start your career in a fast-growing, award-winning specialist engineering business? Our client, a leading provider of data centre design and build services, is seeking a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding Mechanical Design team.This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data centre and comms room design, developing the skills to grow into a fully qualified Mechanical Design Engineer.
The Role
Working under the guidance of the Head of Critical Infrastructure Projects, you will receive mentoring and development opportunities, contributing to mechanical design projects across a wide range of client sites. Key responsibilities include:
Producing mechanical designs for data centre systems, including chilled water, high-efficiency cooling, and ventilation systems Preparing mechanical schematics for both sales and build documentation Assisting in producing specifications for critical mechanical installations Issuing specifications to contractors and reviewing quotations Conducting site surveys as required Developing detailed drawings, technical submissions, calculations, and operational descriptions to the construction standard Liaising with subcontractors and procurement to ensure drawings and specifications are complete for project delivery Preparing technical designs and submittals for customer review Flexibility to work across multiple projects and travel occasionally
About You
BEng, MEng, HNC, or HND in Mechanical Engineering Strong communicator, both written and verbal Good numeracy skills Competent in Word, Excel, and Outlook; AutoCAD knowledge is desirable but not essential Able to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines Full driving licence is advantageous but not essential Forward-thinking, self-motivated, and a team player
