Head of Design & Technology Prospero Teaching is working with a well‑established secondary school in Southampton who are seeking an experienced and inspirational Head of Design & Technology / Creative Subjects to join their leadership team from September 2026. This is a key leadership role within the secondary phase, offering the opportunity to take strategic ownership of the Creative curriculum, with oversight of Design Technology, Food Technology, Art, Drama, and Music. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping curriculum direction, driving high standards of teaching and learning, and ensuring strong progression for students across Key Stages. The Role
Lead and manage the Creative curriculum across the secondary phase Hold specific subject leadership responsibility in Design Technology or Food Technology Teach high‑quality lessons within your specialist subject Set and deliver a clear strategic vision for Creative subjects Support, mentor, and develop colleagues within the department Ensure curriculum coherence and progression across Drama, Art, Music, DT, and Food Monitor standards of teaching, assessment, and outcomes across Creative subjects Balance classroom teaching with wider responsibilities as a Head of Curriculum Contribute positively to the school's wider leadership and development priorities
The School Is Looking For
A qualified teacher with QTS/QTLS A strong subject specialist in Design Technology or Food Technology Proven experience teaching at secondary level Experience in curriculum leadership or middle leadership A highly organised professional who can manage multiple priorities effectively Someone who maintains high classroom expectations while leading strategically A collaborative leader who can inspire both students and staff
Contract Details
Position: Head of Design & Technology / Creative Subjects (Secondary) Location: Southampton Contract Type: Permanent, Full‑Time Start Date: September 2026 Salary: UPS £47,472 - £51,048 TLR: £4,305.60
Experience, Training & Safeguarding
QTS/QTLS required Strong secondary classroom experience essential Leadership experience within a curriculum area desirable Up‑to‑date safeguarding training (can be provided)

Right to work in the UK Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one) Two recent professional references
