About This Role

We are looking for a Head of Engineering to join our Glasgow Operations team in Scotland. This opportunity is ideal for someone looking for leadership responsibility and their next challenge in a technical capacity in an environment that is both dynamic and fast paced with exciting missions and challenging schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for engineering function including load and capacity and engineering structure
  • Accountable for the monitoring and achievement of operational and/or financial results for area of responsibility
  • Responsible for staffing decisions and development through the employment lifecycle
  • Capability mapping and development plan for engineering function
  • Accountable for all engineering and operational performance metrics (safety, quality, cost, people and delivery)
  • Interdisciplinary engineering management including electronics, mechanical, systems and software disciplines
  • Deliver cash and profit expectations against budget by ensuring Project Milestones / Gates are met
  • Accurate engineering load and capacity plan for department
  • Review forecasted work schedules (12-month outlook) to ensure that the Engineering Team contains the correct competencies and where needed recruit appropriate, qualified staff to service programs
  • Customer interaction, development and collaborative workshops
  • Clear development lifecycle and delivery for all assigned product lines within standard, timescales and quality requirements
  • Robust engineering processes along with design review quality process, to drive continuous improvement and reduction in non-conformance.
  • Ensuring planned engineering activities are efficiently carried out, with particular attention being given to the planning and control of labour resources and storage, control, and utilisation of materials Vs budget
  • Able to interpret and negotiate customer requirements while directing engineering teams to maximise standardisation and design reuse

Skills Required

  • Relevant degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experienced in Design for Manufacture and Design for Test best practice
  • Demonstrates evidence of people leadership and development for multi-disciplinary engineering teams in a high technology development environment
  • Experience in spacecraft engineering, with a working knowledge of space manufacturing practices and methods
  • Track record with instilling standard and efficient engineering processes and/or improvement projects
  • Strategic thinking and direction for functional area
  • Financial and commercial acumen
  • KPI Setting, delivery and management
  • Critical thinking and problem solving with the ability to manage risk
  • People Leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft software
  • Proficient in English, both verbally and written

Skills Desired

  • Understanding of space preferred, or highly accredited sector such as Defence/Aerospace
  • Previous experience working with small/medium sized companies
  • Leadership qualification
