This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned finance leader to step into a Head of Finance role within a well-established, growing groundworks and civil engineering business .

You'll take full ownership of the finance function, working closely with the Directors to shape strategy, improve performance, and drive commercial decision-making across the business.

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit back and report numbers — you'll be at the heart of the business, influencing outcomes and adding real value.

The Role

As Head of Finance, you will:
Lead and develop a finance team of 6
Take ownership of: Management accounts
Budgeting and forecasting
Cashflow and working capital

Provide meaningful commercial insight to senior leadership
Oversee VAT, CIS, and statutory compliance
Drive improvements in systems, processes, and controls
Partner with operational teams to support project performance
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running in a construction environment , ideally:
Background in groundworks or civil engineering (essential)
Strong understanding of CIS and contract accounting
Proven experience in a Head of Finance / Financial Controller role
Experience managing and developing teams
Comfortable working in a hands-on, owner-managed business
Qualifications are welcome but not essential — proven experience in the sector is more important.
