Due to continued growth we are expanding our Finance team and are looking for a Head of Finance – Special Projects. This role will lead the financial aspects of strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), organic growth initiatives, post‑deal or expansion finance integration and implementation of new financial systems. The role ensures seamless financial transitions during periods of change, delivering robust governance and embedding best practice across the organisation.

Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Lead financial due diligence for acquisitions and disposals.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to assess deal viability, valuation and synergies.
  • Partner with legal, commercial, corporate development and special projects teams to structure transactions and mitigate financial risks.
  • Present financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Finance Integration

  • Design and execute integration plans for acquired businesses or strategic expansions, ensuring alignment with Group financial policies and controls.
  • Standardise core finance processes (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Treasury, Tax) across integrated entities.
  • Assess existing processes, identify gaps and implement best practice for consistency and scalability.
  • Appoint appropriate advisors to support tax compliance.
  • Oversee migration of financial data into Group systems, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance.
  • Embed robust internal controls during integration to mitigate financial and operational risks.

Organic Growth Initiatives

  • Partner with business units to evaluate and model new investments, expansions and strategic projects.
  • Provide financial analysis and governance for capital projects and growth programmes.
  • Ensure robust financial planning and risk assessment for organic growth opportunities.
  • Support implementation of financial processes for new business units or service lines.

Systems Implementation & Process Improvement

  • Lead end‑to‑end implementation of new financial systems, including requirements gathering, vendor selection, configuration, testing and deployment.
  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to ensure system design meets business requirements.
  • Drive user training and adoption programmes to ensure smooth transition and minimise disruption.
  • Establish governance for system changes and enhancements post‑implementation.

Handover to BAU Finance Teams

  • Define and document all integrated processes, policies and system workflows for future reference.
  • Develop a structured handover plan, including timelines, responsibilities and knowledge‑transfer sessions for BAU finance teams.
  • Monitor post‑handover performance and provide support during stabilisation to ensure continuity and compliance.
  • Act as a liaison between project teams and BAU finance to resolve residual issues and embed continuous improvement culture.

Strategic Financial Projects

  • Manage ad‑hoc finance projects aligned with business transformation and growth objectives.
  • Engage and collaborate with wider teams including Corporate Development, Special Projects, Integration, HR, Legal, Tax and other business functions to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation and cost efficiencies across finance operations.
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging financial technologies and best practice.

Requirements

Education and Experience Required

  • Professional Qualification: ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.

Experience

  • Proven track record in M&A, financial due diligence and integration/set‑up of businesses.
  • Strong background in financial systems implementation and transformation projects.
  • Experience managing complex, cross‑functional projects in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Exposure to organic growth initiatives and capital investment projects.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced financial modelling, ERP systems knowledge and project management expertise.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication and leadership capabilities.
