Overview

The Head of FP&A will lead financial planning and analysis activities within the not-for-profit sector, ensuring robust financial insight and support for organisational decision-making. This role is based in Bath and requires expertise in accounting and finance to deliver strategic guidance and operational excellence.

Description

  • Lead and coordinate the development of the 5-year financial plan, supporting strategy through robust scenario modelling, sensitivity analysis, risk assessment, and strategic recommendations.
  • Deliver quarterly reforecasts for income and associated costs across multiple locations
  • Provide authoritative financial analysis, insight, and advice to inform strategic initiatives, investment decisions, and resource allocation.
  • Provide senior-level financial analysis and oversight and narrative for monthly management accounts variances against budget for tuition income, franchise fee, marketing & outreach expenditure and student recruitment commissions, ensuring an accurate interpretation and explanation of variances.
  • Produce concise, high impact financial commentary that supports decision-making by senior leaders and budget holders.
  • Lead development and refinement of financial models, ensuring accuracy, transparency and strategic alignment.
  • Provide advanced scenario planning and financial modelling expertise to support major strategic decisions and risk assessments.
  • Line manage the Finance Analyst, ensuring strong performance, development, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote collaboration across Finance, including with Finance Systems and Management Accounts teams.

Profile

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Significant experience working within the university sector in a similar financial planning, forecasting, or analytical leadership role.
  • Proven experience of developing financial plans, long‑term forecasts, and scenario modelling.
  • Experience of successfully leading and managing direct reports
  • Experience producing financial analysis for senior leadership decision‑making.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling principles.
  • Experience working in a complex organisation with multiple income streams and cost drivers.
  • Experience of working within the Higher Education sector
