Head of Health & Safety – Civil Engineering & Infrastructure

The Opportunity

A leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking a Head of Health & Safety to drive and lead HSEQ strategy across a diverse portfolio of major projects.

This is a pivotal leadership role offering the opportunity to shape safety culture at a business-critical level, working closely with senior leadership and operational teams to deliver best-in-class health, safety and wellbeing performance.

You’ll play a key role in influencing behaviour, embedding a proactive safety culture, and ensuring the highest standards are consistently achieved across all operations.

The Role

As Head of Health & Safety, you will:

Lead the development and implementation of the company-wide HSEQ strategy

Provide expert guidance to senior leadership and project teams

Drive a positive, proactive safety culture across all sites

Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation and industry standards

Oversee audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives

Lead incident investigations and ensure effective corrective actions

Manage and develop the H&S team across multiple projects

Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies

Monitor performance metrics and report at board level

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience in a senior H&S leadership role within civil engineering or infrastructure

Strong working knowledge of major project environments (e.g. highways, rail, energy, utilities)

Demonstrable experience driving cultural change and behavioural safety

Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills

NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) essential

Chartered membership of IOSH (or working towards) preferred
