Edenbrook are working with a leading specialty Insurer/Re-Insurer on a Head of Insurance and Underwriting Risk hire. This role provides second-line oversight and challenge across underwriting risk, model governance and validation, ORSA, capital modelling, and risk appetite. You will shape risk frameworks, influence strategic decisions, and ensure strong governance across a global insurance platform. Key Responsibilities:

Provide independent challenge across underwriting, reserving, pricing, capital modelling, reinsurance, and exposure management Oversee development, validation, and governance of internal models (including catastrophe and stochastic models) Define and monitor risk appetite, key metrics, and portfolio exposures Lead capital analysis, stress and scenario testing

ORSA

Lead the Own Risk & Solvency Assessment (ORSA) process Produce clear, board-ready risk opinions, analysis, and reporting

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

Report capital, model, and exposure insights to senior committees and the Board Partner with underwriting, actuarial, finance, and exposure teams to ensure alignment on assumptions and risk views

Leadership & Governance

Lead and develop a team covering underwriting risk, model validation, and ORSA Promote strong risk culture and consistent governance standards Ensure regulatory compliance and readiness for audit

Strategic Contribution

Provide risk input into strategic decisions and transformation initiatives Assess emerging risks and industry developments to refine risk appetite
