What you will do We are looking for a strategic and commercially focused Head of Projects to lead the delivery of SWARCO Smart Charging projects across the UK. This is a home‑based role with regular travel to sites and our Smart Charging offices in Hemel Hempstead and Dundee. This senior leadership position will play a key role in the continued growth of the Smart Charging business. You will be responsible for overseeing project delivery, ensuring strong financial performance, and developing a high‑performing team capable of delivering complex EV infrastructure programmes safely, on time, and within budget. You will promote a culture of continuous improvement, quality management, and operational excellence while collaborating across departments and with key stakeholders. The role requires strong leadership, commercial awareness, and a focus on customer satisfaction alongside the highest standards of Health & Safety. Key responsibilities include:
Leading the delivery of all SWARCO Smart Charging projects Managing financial performance, budgets and commercial outcomes Developing project delivery capability and team structure Driving continuous improvement and operational excellence Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget Maintaining strong customer relationships and stakeholder engagement Supporting the strategic growth of the Smart Charging business Promoting a positive leadership culture across the projects function
On a day‑to‑day basis, you will:
Monitor project budgets and financial performance against targets Review contract documentation ensuring accuracy and compliance Lead and develop Project Managers, Coordinators and delivery teams Liaise with customers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders Resolve escalations and customer issues effectively Implement and maintain quality and audit processes Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental and ISO standards Support succession planning and talent development within the team
What we are looking for Essential
Proven experience leading and growing a busy projects delivery function Strong financial and commercial management experience including P&L ownership Experience setting and managing budgets with focus on performance improvement Ability to analyse monthly accounts and optimise financial outcomes Strong leadership and decision‑making skills Excellent prioritisation and communication skills across all levels Experience producing reports and presenting performance data IT literate with strong Microsoft Office skills APM qualification (minimum) SMSTS or IOSH Safety qualification Knowledge of CDM Regulations 18th Edition Electrical qualification Full UK driving licence
Desirable
Degree in Business or similar discipline NEBOSH Safety qualification EV charging or Smart Infrastructure experience Salesforce knowledge Experience within the EV industry Understanding of civils and buried cable risks Strong coaching and mentoring capability Experience developing succession plans and team capability
