The opportunity: A fast-growing, purpose-led pet nutrition brand is looking to appoint a Head of Retail Sales to lead the development of its retail channel in the UK. The business has built a strong D2C foundation, reaching £12M ARR, and is now looking ready to expand into bricks‑and‑mortar retail. This role offers the opportunity to establish and scale the retail function from the ground up, securing listings with leading grocery retailers, pet specialists, and independent stores. The successful candidate will work closely with the leadership team to shape the company’s multichannel strategy, and will play a key role in building and leading a dedicated retail sales team as distribution grows. What will my accountabilities be?
Develop and execute the UK retail strategy, establishing the brand within key grocery retailers, pet store chains, and specialist outlets. Identify and engage with buyers across priority retail accounts, leading the sell‑in process and negotiating product listings. Build compelling commercial proposals including product range, pricing structures, and promotional agreements. Manage the successful launch of retail listings, ensuring strong in‑store visibility, effective promotional activity, and ongoing distribution growth. Own pricing and promotional frameworks across retail channels, ensuring consistency while protecting margin and commercial strategy. Support the future build‑out of a retail‑focused sales team as the channel scales.
Who will I be working with?
Internal, report to MD and work closely with Founders External, Retail and Wholesale customers
A great candidate will have:
⭐️ FMCG sales experience of top 4 UK Grocers ⭐️ Growth mindset, taking a hands‑on approach to building a channel from the ground up ⭐️ Highly adaptable and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, scaling business environment ⭐️ Comfortable dealing with ambiguity, with a default setting to operate at pace and with rigour ⭐️ Experience within the pet category would be advantageous, although not essential
