What You’ll Be Doing Acting as a key partner to the Technology Director and the Head of Delivery, you will oversee all software engineering disciplines, ensuring technical solutions are scalable cloud-native, robust, and secure by design. You will lead a multi‑disciplinary engineering team, encompassing Frontend, Backend, Mobile, Hardware, DevOps, and QA. Foster a culture of technical rigour that integrates software agility with the continued evolution of the core technology. What You’ll Need

Proven leadership, with experience leading a multidisciplinary technology function encompassing software development Extensive experience successfully driving large‑scale architectural transformation and modernisation projects (e.g., monolithic to microservices, legacy stack replacement) Expertise in cloud‑native, scalable system design Deep understanding of modern web and mobile architecture, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and serverless patterns

Role Details Job title: Head of Software Development. May also be known as: Software Development Manager, or Head of Software Engineering. Location: Southwest England. Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Plymouth, Poole, Torquay – all reasonable. We are relaxed about office time / home time, but think to be effective in this role, you'll need to be able to spend a good amount of time in the office; certainly, toward the beginning of your tenure. 1 day a week in office, preferably 2, with flexibility coming when your team and you are comfortable.
