About the role We are looking for a Head of Tax on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Head of Tax will be responsible for providing a full range of tax compliance and reporting services to Just Group covering Corporation Tax, Value Added Tax, and Payroll/Annuitant taxes. You will also be responsible for tax planning and structuring, tax advice across Defined Benefits, Retail, Investments, and HR matters, as well as controllership of tax processes and leadership of the Group’s approach to tax. Responsibilities Lead and manage a tax team, responsible for setting its vision and strategy. Drive the team towards continuous improvement in processes and support of the business. Be the ambassador for tax, ensuring that appropriate colleagues across the Group are aware of the need to consider tax impacts of actions. Appoint and manage relationships with appropriate taxation advisers to ensure taxation advice is delivered in a controlled, effective, and cost-efficient way. Manage the tax reporting process and be accountable for IFRS and Solvency II tax figures. Develop, obtain approval for, and maintain the Group Board’s tax Strategy. Oversee the relationship with HMRC, ensuring they are fully informed on tax matters within the Group. Monitor tax developments and ensure tax structuring and compliance are dynamic to change, with tax processes, systems, and controls adapting and evolving. Skills & Experience Significant post-qualification experience within the insurance industry or financial services is essential. Qualified accountant is essential. Considerable cross-border tax specialist knowledge, mainly UK. Ability to resolve issues and problems. Sound understanding of the impact of various activity types on tax. Strong communicator with internal and external stakeholders, able to communicate complex matters. A flexible style of working that allows both a focus on routine activities and the ability to focus on key project work as and when required.
