Overview The Head of Technology – RS UK will provide strategic, operational and technical leadership across Technology and Change. This role is critical to delivering UK business growth ambitions—including pensions administration expansion, new market entry, and faster product innovation—while ensuring our platforms remain resilient, modern and scalable. This leader will join the UK Senior Leadership Team and work closely with Group Technology to ensure alignment with architectural standards, platform engineering, governance and global best practice. Purpose of the Role The Head of Technology – RS UK will be responsible for four critical outcome areas:
Driving Growth & New Product Enablement
Build and acquire technology capabilities that directly support UK growth Partner with Product, Growth and Client Delivery to enable faster time to market, stronger product evolution and disciplined delivery.
Strengthening Platform & Architecture
Modernise core application estate and address resilience challenges across IT. Ensure platform development aligns with Group technology standards and leverages global capabilities.
End-to-End Accountability Across Technology & Change
Integrate delivery across Technology, Change and Transformation and Group Technology functions Ensure effective governance and reporting
Improving Execution Discipline
Strengthen resource planning transparency and cost management. Support improved forecasting, revenue tracking and client delivery performance across the UK SLT.
Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Lead multi disciplinary programme, project and technical delivery teams across the full change lifecycle. Provide leadership across Planning, Digital Products, Data, Support & Development, Test/QA Shape the UK digital and applications strategy in partnership with regional and global stakeholders. Define and manage the annual change portfolio aligned to short, medium and long term business plans and financial targets.
Operational & Delivery Management
Establish frameworks for API, microservices and modern engineering practices. Work closely with Core Technology teams to deliver core application services. Collaborate with India Hub leads to transition and optimise delivery. Ensure consistent reporting and delivery governance in partnership with the Head of PMO. Partner with EMEA Technology leadership and RS Australia Architecture to drive global standardisation and best practice. Oversee delivery performance, ensuring projects meet scope, schedule, budget and quality expectations. Manage incidents and escalations to minimise business disruption and protect resilience. Build high-performing product development teams, optimising P&L impact and user experience.
People Leadership
Lead and develop the delivery of your technical workforce, fostering a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement. Serve as a member of the Retirement Solutions EMEA Senior Leadership Team. Manage third party partners and vendors to ensure cost effective, high-quality outcomes. Provide clear leadership on technical direction, best practice, engineering excellence and behavioural expectations. Oversee resource allocation, capacity planning, performance reviews and career development.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory and industry requirements. Manage departmental KPIs, service reporting, risk registers and issue escalation. Lead project governance reviews and ensure robust risk management practices. Promote consistent ways of working globally and build a culture of professionalism and compliance.
Experience & Personal Attributes
Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary technical & delivery teams. Strong strategic-thinking capability and ability to translate business goals into clear technical outcomes. Deep experience of modern product platform engineering and practices. Strong understanding of risk, resilience, regulatory environments and quality assurance. Excellent senior stakeholder engagement across business, commercial and global functions. Demonstrated ability to lead through change, drive continuous improvement, and foster high-performance cultures. Strong financial acumen in budgeting, forecasting and cost optimisation. Experience in or exposure to pensions administration, regulated products or financial services (preferred). Objective outcomes for the role:
