Location: Wakefield
Salary: £65,000 – £70,000 + Package
Projects: Major schemes ranging from £50m – £150m
A well-established main contractor is seeking a professional and experienced Health & Safety Manager to oversee and maintain safety standards across their high-value construction projects in the Wakefield region. With a strong track record in delivering complex builds across commercial, logistics and mixed-use sectors, this contractor offers a long-term opportunity for an individual who takes pride in building a culture of safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:

Ensure all sites remain safe, compliant and aligned with current health & safety legislation.
*
Promote and implement the company’s H&S policies across all projects and departments.
*
Stay up to date with all statutory obligations and ensure ongoing compliance.
*
Carry out regular site inspections and audits, providing structured feedback to project and senior management.
*
Ensure actions raised from inspections are closed out within agreed timeframes.
*
Conduct investigations into incidents or near misses, supporting accurate and timely close-out reporting.
*
Review and validate risk assessments and method statements across all trades and subcontractors.
*
Confirm appropriate welfare facilities, inductions and site setups are maintained.
*
Monitor COSHH compliance and ensure hazardous substances are securely stored.
*
Support the completion and monitoring of permit-to-work systems.
*
Identify and address non-compliance or unsafe behaviour across site teams.
*
Provide ongoing support, guidance, and training to operational teams to foster a positive safety culture.
Requirements:
*
NEBOSH Construction Certificate (minimum) or equivalent qualification.
*
Proven experience in a health & safety management role within the main contracting or large-scale construction environment.
*
Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK health & safety law.
*
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*
Ability to influence and engage at all levels, from site teams to directors.
*
Confident conducting inspections, investigations and safety reviews independently.
