About the role

Balfour Beatty are looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager (Distribution Cable Utilities) to join our Power Transmission and Distribution team working in Middlesbrough and surrounding areas in the North East.

The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager will support the Operations /Project Director, Head of HSW and Project Senior Teams to deliver our Zero Harm objectives . They will d rive performance of the relevant HSW teams ensuring efficient and effective service and support levels to meet and where possible exceed operational requirements.

Our Power T&D team work closely with local, national and international electricity network owners to provide technical engineering solutions that cover every aspect of the electricity grid. From overhead lines to underground cabling, substations, converter stations and distribution networks, our team is dedicated to ensuring reliable and safe power for millions of homes and businesses.

What you'll be doing

• Manage day to day Health and Safety resources to support Operations implement the Health and Safety Policy and standards across all BUs in the ir area of responsibility.
• Manage the resource allocation and deployment of competent HSW delivery resource across their area of responsibility, en suring resource utilisation data is collected and made available to implement a risk - based support schedule.
• Support work winning and bid support for the operational teams, where required.
• Manage the programme of inspection and audit to provide assurance that all BUs continue to compl y with company requirements.
• Fulfil HSW , Customer and Balfour Beatty in cident reporting and performance requirements (7 Day Report, KPIs,) and act as incident lead if required.
• In co llaboration with Project Director/ Head of Operations Directors, c arry out project and business sector HSW performance reviews using lagging and leading indicators .
• Support the Operation s/Project Director with contract /project level SHELT s to drive and deliver HS & E i mprovement p lan s .
• Maintain up to date knowledge of developments in Health and Safety .
• Lead, develop and coach individuals to build high performing teams and create a pipeline of talent, sharing learnings and contributing to continuous improvement.
• Develop professional relationships with customers and specifically their HS&E professionals.
• Ensure key stakeholders are aligned on priorities and details of the HS&E Strategy and Plans.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

• Corporate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards)
• NVQ Level 4/5 (or equivalent qualification/experience).
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate / Diploma .
• Must have detailed, technical knowledge and experience h ealth and safety legislation, regulations and guidance.
• Construction/Utilities industry experience (or experience in an equivalent sector)
• Must have prior experience of providing leadership and support to operational and functional t eams .
