Job Description
We’re looking for an HSW Technical Governance Advisor to help strengthen our health, safety and well-being governance across the organisation. In this influential role, you’ll provide expert technical advice, lead assurance activities, and support investigations into significant incidents and asset or process failures. You’ll play a key part in maintaining high-quality HSW standards, ensuring our systems meet legislation, industry best practice, and wider organisational needs.\n\nWhat you’ll be doing as a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Technical Governance   Advisor\n\nMaintain and improve HSW standards, procedures, and technical documents\nOffer expert guidance on complex risk topics and technical safety issues\nCoach colleagues, facilitate learning reviews, and champion just culture and psychological safety\nBuild strong relationships with operations, engineering, projects, and regulators\nDrive continuous improvement in systems, controls, and organisational learning\nSupport the HSW Assurance Manager and wider HSW Team with matters of major accident hazard procedural control and site practice\nSupport the wider HSW team in the diligent completion of incidents of significant potential\nProvide technical interpretations of standards and regulatory requirements to the HSW Team and operational leadersBase Location: Field-based - covering all of Thames Water\nWorking Pattern or hours:  36 hours\n\nWhat you should bring to the role\nTo thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:\n\nFull UK driving license\nSignificant experience in health & safety, process/technical safety, asset integrity, or similar\nStrong investigation and assurance skills, with experience in audit or governance roles\nExcellent understanding of HSW legislation and industry good practice\nAbility to communicate complex technical risk clearly and influence at all levels\nCalm, pragmatic, collaborative approach with strong analytical skills\nNEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6/7 qualification \nRecognised investigation training (e.g., ICAM, TapRooT, 5‑Why)\nChartered status (e.g., CMIOSH/CEng) What’s in it for you?\n\nCompetitive salary from £55,000 per annum, depending on experience\nAnnual Leave - 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays) \nCar allowance\nPerformance -related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets\nGenerous Pension Scheme through AON\nAccess to lots of benefits to help you take care of you and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.Find out more about our benefits and perks (Please note different T&Cs apply if on secondment)\n\nWho are we?\n\nWe’re the UK’s largest water and wastewater company, with more than 16 million customers relying on us every day to supply water for their taps and toilets.
