Position Overview
The Intelligence Division is the driving force behind the identification and development of new cases for the SFO. Working in partnership with wider law enforcement agencies and intelligence communities, the SFO is focused on tackling the most serious and complex cases of fraud, bribery and corruption nationally. With plans to increase the scope of its intelligence division in the new year, the SFO seeks to be more proactive in case identification and innovative in its tactics to tackle serious organised crime. The role of the Higher Intelligence Officer (HIO) within the intelligence division is central to SFO's activities in triaging and developing referrals and intelligence which are the lifeblood of the agencies work streams as well as supporting and developing colleagues.
The HIO works as part of a team collecting, evaluating, analysing, assessing and disseminating information and intelligence from a variety of sources. The HIO will be required to build and maintain relationships with individuals and organisations who can assist the SFO by providing information of relevance to the investigation and prosecution of its cases. All activities will be carried out within a defined legal and procedural framework.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluating and quality assuring intelligence referrals against the SFO case acceptance criteria taking into account a range of factors as appropriate.
Working with Senior Intelligence Officer colleagues on intelligence development operations, in some instances leading on casework as time and resources allow.
Develop and maintain systems and processes to track the progression of work undertaken by staff within the Intelligence Division.
Handling email and postal correspondence received by the SFO, to accurately capture intelligence and provide a professional first point of contact for the organisation.
Developing accurate and comprehensive intelligence pictures which identify potential suspects and criminality, seeking clarification, obtaining more material or making further enquiries where necessary.
Management and supervision of Intelligence Officer colleagues in the timely delivery of quality intelligence products in accordance with the responsibilities set out on their job description and completion of performance appraisals as appropriate.
