Job Summary

My client is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to oversee the commercial aspects of a major Highways project in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. This is a senior-level role responsible for leading the quantity surveying team, ensuring cost control, procurement, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and subcontractors. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with NEC contracts and a strong background in managing large-scale Civil Engineering projects, specifically Highways.

Key Responsibilities:
·Lead the commercial function of the project, including the establishment and management of the project budget, ensuring accurate and detailed cost reporting.
·Manage the procurement of subcontract packages and ensure all subcontractor agreements are in place.
·Oversee contract administration, including handling delays, claims, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
·Provide expert advice on cost forecasting, cash flow management, and the financial health of the project.
·Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and project teams.
·Attend and represent the company at progress and commercial meetings.
·Mentor and guide junior Quantity Surveyors, ensuring the effective management of resources and staff.
·Ensure that the variation/compensation event mechanism is correctly followed for commercial protection.
·Liaise with the project team to resolve commercial issues, ensuring the timely delivery of the project within budget.

Essential Requirements:
·Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
·Proven experience in a Managing Quantity Surveyor role, ideally within the Highways or heavy Civils sector.
·Extensive knowledge and experience of NEC contracts (preferably Option C).
·Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
·Solid background in managing large-scale Civil Engineering projects, from inception to completion.
·Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Desirable:
·Professional qualifications (e.g., MRICS/MCICES).
