PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £60,000 - £70,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This role will lead multiple teams to deliver purpose-led, digital-first, high quality HR services across the end-to-end employee lifecycle. The role is accountable for leading an established team (made up of Senior HR Advisors and HR Administrators), simplifying processes, ensuring compliance, supporting key lifecycle moments, being an active member of the wider People Services leadership team and driving continuous improvement in the employee and leader experience.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
We are seeking an experienced Operational Leader (Business Partner) to join our People Services HR leadership team to lead our HR Services, Onboarding and Recruitment Administration teams. Acting as a trusted internal consultant, the role shapes and delivers people strategies and operational excellence that enables high performance, engagement and organisational effectiveness.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Shape and continuously improve HR strategy, policies, processes and frameworks aligned to organisational objectives and best practice.
- Ensure consistent, effective application of HR policies, tools and ways of working across the organisation.
- Lead and develop multiple HR operational teams (HR Services, Onboarding and Recruitment Administration) delivering high‑quality support across the full employee lifecycle.
- Deliver purpose‑led, digital‑first HR services with clear standards, strong governance, legislative compliance and adherence to SLAs.
- Embed clear service standards aligned to the HR Operating Model and ensure effective support for key lifecycle moments (onboarding, changes, pay, absence and exits).
- Drive continuous improvement and technology‑enabled change using data, user feedback and insight to improve efficiency, quality and experience.
- Use data and analysis to diagnose operational issues, measure impact and build compelling cases for change.
- Lead and contribute to HR projects, stay current with external HR trends, build professional networks and act as an internal and external ambassador for HR.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Significant operational leadership experience, ideally gained within an HR Shared Services environment.
- Proven experience of leading multiple teams in large, complex organisations, operating effectively across multiple stakeholders and matrix relationships.
- Extensive experience navigating complex people situations, ambiguity and competing stakeholder interests with confidence and credibility.
- Demonstrable people leadership experience, with the ability to build, motivate and sustain high performing teams.
- Proven experience managing complex employee relations matters.
- Highly effective communication skills, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively and build commitment at all levels of the organisation.
- Strong analytical and problem solving capability, with the ability to simplify complexity and translate ideas into practical, implementable solutions.
- Demonstrable adaptability and resilience, remaining calm and effective in complex, high pressure or sensitive situations.
DESIRED CRITERIA:
- MCIPD or equivalent Level 7 qualification, or significant equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in managing headcount and budgets.
- Experience in leading change programmes and organisational transformation.
