ICT Data Centre Shift Engineer
Job Description
To provide on-site support for the provision and maintenance of ICT and Engineering services within the data centre environment. These activities typically include the provision and fault diagnostic / rectification of network channel connectivity, installation, relocation & decommissioning of IT equipment (servers, switches, routers etc) and general engineering maintenance & housekeeping of the critical services.
Key Responsibilities
• To receive, respond and resolve Break / Fix tickets within the agreed SLA timeframe or escalate promptly if they cannot be resolved within an acceptable timely manner.
• To receive, assess and complete patching / de-patching requests (both copper and fibre) within the agreed SLA timeframe and to applicable internal, manufacture and industry standards.
• To receive, assess and complete IT equipment installation, relocation and decommission requests within the agreed SLA timeframes and to applicable internal, manufacture and industry standards.
• Ensure all deployments are installed to applicable internal, manufacture and industry standards.
• Provide remote hands problem solving support (server reboots, backups, visual inspections etc).
• Assist in carrying out basic M&E assistance within the Data Centre on agreement with the Data Centre Site Lead or ICT Team Lead
• To escort third party engineers and ensure their compliance with the site standards.
• Carry out daily housekeeping checks of the data halls and record their findings.
• Ensure that all records are updated following any changes made.
• Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared and used for all tasks undertaken to always ensure safe working practices.
• To develop a good working relationship with all members of JLL staff and Client representatives.
• Ensure the provision of a Safe and Healthy working environment. To include the wearing of uniform and PPE.
• To operate a Permit to Work System in accordance with JLL Quality, Health & Safety procedures, and client requirements.
• Ensure up to date shift logs / Shift Handover documents are always completed/kept up to date.
• Overseeing and monitoring of sub-contractors works whilst they are on site undertaking pre-approved maintenance.
• To provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in their working patterns to maintain SLA's and site coverage.
• Undertake other tasks as defined and requested by local management.
Accountabilities
• Accountable to the JLL ICT Team Lead
• The post holder does not have any directly reporting staff.
• This post carries no direct budgetary responsibility.
• Provide fleetwide support as required covering the VIRTUS campus (Slough, Hayes & Stockley Park)
Qualification and Skills
• A good basic education is essential, with good written and spoken English and basic mathematical skills.
• Training (accredited desired) in the installation of copper and fibre structured cabling systems.
• Knowledge of copper and fibre transmission principles.
• Knowledge in the use of handheld data cabling test equipment including testing parameters and testing techniques.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Committed to the delivery of excellent customer service.
• Self-motivated, ability to work on own initiative.
• Punctual and reliable.
• Ability to work under pressure, with changing, and often conflicting, priorities to meet deadlines.
• A team player, able to work with both JLL and client stakeholders at all levels.
• Able to make informed decisions as required and working to defined Service Management processes.
• Physically fit and able to carry tools and components by hand.
• Able to ascend and descend vertical access equipment and able to work at heights.
Experience
• Installation and maintenance of copper and fibre structured cabling systems.
• A good knowledge of IT equipment and their components including server, switch and blade technology.
• An understanding of the Data Centre environment, and the working restrictions applicable to such environments.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
• A good understanding of fault diagnostic techniques including the use of handheld test equipment.

• Desirable
o Two years of IT deployment/support experience.
o Previous data center experience.
o Previous experience of using ServiceNow and Maximo
o CDCTP certification
Role Requirements
• Must be willing to works shifts, provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in their working patterns.
• Must be willing to travel to support operational delivery.
• Must hold a full UK driving license and able to use company vehicle (where available) to travel between sites.
• Own a vehicle in the event the company vehicle is not available.
