Infrastructure Engineer - Band 7 - NHS

We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join our IT team within the NHS . This is a hands-on, all-rounder role , supporting and maintaining the IT infrastructure across server, network, cloud, and endpoint environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Microsoft Intune, Azure, networking, and on-premises infrastructure , along with familiarity with NHS-specific systems and processes.
You will be responsible for ensuring systems are secure, compliant, and fully operational, while collaborating with other teams to support users and deliver IT projects.
Key Responsibilities Intune & Azure:
Configure and manage Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager , including compliance policies and client machine updates
Manage Entra ID / Azure Active Directory , including security groups and permissions
Administer SharePoint Online : creating/managing sites, security groups, and file permissions
Package applications (new deployments and updates)
Manage Microsoft licensing and software compliance
PowerShell scripting for automation and Azure management

Networking & Infrastructure:
Maintain networking infrastructure including DHCP, DNS, IP management
Support firewalls (SonicWall) and managed switches (Dell), including VLAN and firmware updates
Basic knowledge of HSCN and managed WiFi services
Maintain on-prem servers : Active Directory, group policies, folder redirection, data management for shared drives and user profiles
Server firmware updates and operating system upgrades

NHS Environment:
Administer NHS Mail via the NHS Mail portal
Support NHS Azure tenant initiatives (knowledge of future direction beneficial)
Familiarity with NHS primary care applications (e.g., EMIS Web, Docman 10)
Understanding of NHS-specific IT policies and environment variations between trusts

Additional Responsibilities:
Manage and resolve tickets via ServiceNow
Use Microsoft Teams for collaboration and communication
Provide training and knowledge transfer to other teams
Participate in IT projects and process improvement initiatives

Essential Skills & Experience Proven hands-on experience as an Infrastructure Engineer in a healthcare / NHS environment
Strong experience with Microsoft Intune, Azure, and Entra ID / Azure Active Directory
Experience managing SharePoint Online , including permissions and security
PowerShell scripting experience for automation and management tasks
Basic networking knowledge (DHCP, DNS, IP management)
Experience with server and network infrastructure , including firewalls, managed switches, and Active Directory
NHS-specific experience, including NHS Mail , primary applications, or NHS IT environments
Experience using ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Skills Experience with HSCN or NHS Digital infrastructure initiatives
Experience with IT security and compliance frameworks
Familiarity with Microsoft licensing management at scale
Exposure to NHS migration projects or cloud adoption strategies
Personal Attributes Proactive, hands-on, and able to hit the ground running
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Rate/ IR 35 status /Location:
£240 per day Inside ir35
London - on site 5 days a week
