Overview of the role
As the Commercial Director – Institutional for IFX Payments in London for the Institutional division, you will play a key role in driving strategic growth, strengthening client relationships, and building a high‑performing sales team. This role requires a commercially driven leader with deep market expertise, a proven ability to develop innovative sales strategies, and strong collaboration skills across multiple departments in a fast‑paced environment.
You will be responsible for building and leading the sales and relationship management teams, overseeing the day‑to‑day operations, supporting in driving new business opportunities, and expanding relationships with key clients, while ensuring the achievement of revenue and profitability targets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Define and execute the long‑term vision for the Institutional desk.
Identify emerging market trends, risks and opportunities to maintain a competitive edge.
Set ambitious but achievable growth targets and ensure alignment with broader business objectives.
Sales Strategy & Business Development
Create a robust and high‑performing sales structure that can operate within the Alternative Investment Funds (AIF) infrastructure (private equity, hedge funds, venture capital, real estate funds and family offices).
Develop and implement effective sales strategies for both the department’s direction, to acquire new institutional clients and grow existing relationships.
Team Leadership & Development
Build, lead, and mentor a high‑performing sales team with a strong performance‑driven culture.
Establish clear goals, KPIs, and processes to ensure team success.
Foster talent development through training, coaching, and career progression opportunities.
Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and motivating environment where individuals excel.
Actively support and encourage your team members personal development and career growth to make it count.
Cross‑Department Collaboration
Collaborate with dealing, operations, risk, and compliance teams to deliver seamless client solutions.
Ensure effective communication and alignment with product development and marketing functions.
Work closely with risk, credit, finance and compliance teams to uphold regulatory requirements and mitigate exposure.
Performance & Market Impact
Drive consistent revenue growth and profitability for the Institutional division.
Monitor and report on sales performance, pipeline activity, and client engagement metrics.
Position IFX Payments as a trusted advisor and market leader in the Institutional space.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
A proven track record selling and operating with the AIF ecosystem.
Experienced in managing fast‑paced high‑performing sales teams.
Proficient in sales and revenue forecasting.
Experience in leading and developing high‑performing teams with the ability to inspire, motivate, and energise teams to achieve high performance.
Ability to create a results‑oriented environment where success is celebrated and rewarded appropriately.
Ability to create context and clarity for team members and handle difficult conversations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
A true team player with a winning mentality and strong work ethic committed to continuous improvement and high performance.
Adaptable, tenacious and flexible who can perform under pressure.
