Location: Reading, UK

Pay: £84,200 - £114,000 per annum
Our client, a leading player in the energy and petrochemical sector, is hiring for a reputable project in Reading. Join a dynamic team working on the SAMREF+ Project, which aims to develop a world-scale mixed-feed steam cracker and upgrade refinery facilities to reduce emissions and optimise operations.
What you'll be doing:
* Provide technical leadership in instrumentation and control systems, ensuring safety, operability, and cost-effectiveness.
* Collaborate with project teams and contractors to refine design concepts, manage risks, and optimise scope for capital efficiency.
* Oversee the development and application of engineering standards, philosophies, and specifications for instrumentation systems.
* Support safety instrumented systems (SIS), fire and gas detection, and control system design, including SIL calculations and hazard assessments.
* Review and guide contractor deliverables related to control, protection, and monitoring systems for turbines, compressors, and process units.
* Lead technical assessments of new technology proposals and ensure compliance with project standards.
* Develop and execute engineering surveillance programmes to verify design integrity and standards adherence.
What you'll bring:
* Extensive experience in instrumentation and control systems within refining, chemical, or petrochemical environments.
* Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and collaborate effectively with contractors and stakeholders.
* Strong knowledge of safety instrumented systems, control architecture, and measurement technologies.
* Hands-on expertise with SIL calculations, HAZOP, LOPA, and safety standards.
* Experience with large-scale module design and execution strategies.
* Familiarity with projects in the Middle East or with companies like ExxonMobil or Saudi Aramco is advantageous.
* Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
* Relevant technical qualifications and a proactive approach to risk management and technical excellence.
