Heriot Brown is partnering with an independent specialist (re)insurance broker, to appoint a Legal Counsel into its London-based legal team. This is a broad, business-facing in-house role supporting a respected London Market broker, offering exposure across commercial contracts, regulatory matters, and strategic projects. The role Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will provide legal advice and support across the business to help manage legal risk and enable commercial growth. Key responsibilities include:

Advising on legal risk across the business Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts Supporting implementation of legal strategy Advising on regulatory and governance developments affecting the broker Liaising with external counsel and managing litigation where required Supporting training and education of the business on relevant legal issuesContributing to the design and implementation of processes to manage legal exposure

This is a hands-on role with strong stakeholder interaction across underwriting, broking, compliance and management functions. About you We are keen to speak with:

Strong grounding in insurance law (broking experience highly desirable; insurer background also considered) Confidence advising stakeholders in a regulated environment A pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset
