The Opportunity This internship offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in the Roads & Transportation service, supporting the coordination of roadworks and street activities that keep Angus moving smoothly. You’ll play an important role in helping to plan, record and manage roadworks, working closely with colleagues, utility companies, contractors and members of the public to minimise disruption and ensure works are carried out safely and in line with legislation.
The full job description covers all associated skills, previous experience, and any qualifications that applicants are expected to have.
You’ll get involved in a variety of real operational tasks, from helping with permits and notices for skips, scaffolding and excavations, to supporting the preparation of road closures and diversion routes. You’ll also assist with day-to-day coordination linked to the Roads & Street Works Act, contribute to communication and customer enquiries, and help ensure accurate records and documentation are maintained.
This is a practical, supportive learning environment where you’ll develop valuable skills in organisation, communication, digital systems, research and analysis. You’ll complete core training such as Street Works Qualification, a formal certification required in the UK for anyone carrying out or supervising roadworks, excavations or reinstatement on public roads.
You don’t need previous experience in roads — just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and the ability to bring strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills. This internship gives you the chance to contribute meaningfully to local services while building a foundation for future roles in infrastructure.
This job is temporary for no longer than 12 months from date of appointment.
