About the Role

Our client is a leading global technology and consulting firm delivering complex digital solutions across public sector and large enterprise environments. The Newcastle Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) hosts a large, collaborative technical community spanning backend, frontend, and DevOps. The Java engineering team focuses on backend development, delivering high-quality, enterprise-grade solutions with an engineering-first culture and hands-on technical environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing, developing, and maintaining backend Java applications across enterprise-scale projects.
• Contributing hands-on to project delivery, from requirements through implementation.
• Working within Agile and occasionally Waterfall delivery frameworks.
• Leveraging modern development workflows, including Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Engaging directly with internal engineering peers and stakeholders to share expertise and guidance.
• Continuously upskilling in emerging technologies, including AI and cloud-focused development.
• Mentoring and supporting colleagues (for senior engineers), shaping technical direction without formal line management.

Ideal Background

Java Engineer

• 2–5 years’ hands-on backend Java experience.
• Strong Java fundamentals and practical delivery experience.

Senior Java Engineer

• 5+ years’ experience with deep technical Java expertise.
• Comfortable mentoring peers and contributing to technical decisions.
• Strong communicator with consulting-style collaboration skills.

Core Skills (all levels)

• Backend Java development expertise.
• Experience with Agile or Waterfall delivery models.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and Git workflows.
• Cloud exposure welcomed but not essential.
• Frontend experience beneficial but not required.
• Consultancy or large enterprise delivery experience valued but not mandatory.
