Job Description

Systems Engineer – Autonomous Systems / UAS

Salary £45-50k

Remote (Occasional travel to London HQ)

Permanent

We are working with an exciting and fast-growing safety-tech start-up, who are building the Trust Layer for Physical AI and Autonomous Systems. Due to continued growth and product development, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Systems Engineer to join their Engineering team.

The company is developing next-generation assurance systems that unlock the true benefits of AI for humanity. Their software enables assured, trustworthy deployment of both deterministic autonomy and AI-driven control methods in safety-critical environments — without the need for data or communications links.

With an initial focus on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), the business is pioneering compliance-ready technology that is future-focused and built specifically for safety-critical aerospace and land applications.

This role would suit a confident Systems Engineer with experience delivering complex, safety-critical systems, ideally within aerospace, robotics or autonomous systems. You will play a key role in shaping system architecture, managing the engineering lifecycle and ensuring regulatory and safety compliance across products.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop system architectures for assurance solutions, with particular emphasis on UAS applications

Collaborate with embedded software engineers, safety engineers and ML engineers to integrate software and hardware components into cohesive systems

Conduct system-level analysis, trade-off studies and risk assessments to ensure safety, performance and regulatory compliance

Define and maintain system-level requirements, interfaces and specifications aligned with industry standards

Oversee implementation, integration and verification of system components

Manage the full systems engineering lifecycle from planning, through reviews, implementation, V&V and customer acceptance

Contribute to continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, tooling and methodologies

Key Skills:

Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field

Proven experience architecting and delivering complex, safety-critical systems (ideally within UAS or aerospace domains)

Strong knowledge of systems engineering methodologies such as MBSE, SysML and DoDAF

Solid understanding of software and hardware architecture principles, real-time systems and embedded systems design

Experience working to safety-critical development standards including DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754A and ARP4761

Familiarity with UAS regulations and standards (FAA, EASA, ICAO)

Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

Desirable Skills:

Experience within a start-up or high-growth technology environment

Direct experience within UAS, aerospace autonomy or robotics systems

Exposure to AI/ML integration within safety-critical architectures

Experience supporting certification or regulatory approval processes

What you get in return:

Competitive salary (dependent on experience)

Excellent benefits package

Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI, robotics and autonomous system safety technologies

High-impact role within a mission-driven, fast-growing start-up

Opportunity to grow with the business as it scales
