We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Town Planner with approximately two years of post-qualification experience to join our growing planning team. You will work on a diverse range of projects across residential, commercial, and mixed-use schemes—supporting applications, appeals, policy reviews, and site appraisals for primarily private sector clients. About You
You are a qualified and motivated planning professional with a strong understanding of the English planning system and a desire to grow within consultancy. You enjoy managing your own projects with guidance and thrive in team settings that value collaboration and initiative. You are confident communicating with clients and stakeholders and have a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with a range of planning applications, from pre-application discussions to conditions, and manage smaller applications independently.
- Undertake site visits and prepare reports.
- Prepare detailed planning appraisals and statements.
- Monitor and interpret planning policy changes and produce relevant reports or representations to support client objectives.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and local authorities to progress projects efficiently.
- Support appeals by preparing evidence, statements, and coordinating the process.
- Stay updated on planning legislation, policy, and best practices, and communicate updates internally and externally.
- Assist with business development through client engagement and proposal support.
- Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated project outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to company procedures.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Over 2 years’ post-qualification experience in consultancy, local authority, or developer roles.
- Strong understanding of the English planning system, including legislation and NPPF.
- Effective communication of planning issues.
- Strong research skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret planning documents.
- Excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
- Organized, proactive, and able to meet deadlines.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience with major planning applications, regeneration projects, or appeals.
- Knowledge of viability, design, or sustainability issues.
- Familiarity with GIS or similar tools.
- Experience with planning committees, public consultations, or appeal hearings.
- Interest or experience in business development.
