The appointment is to commence 6th August 2025 for a fixed term period until 4th August 2026 working with in the Neurosurgery unit based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Applicants should have a medical degree or diploma from a recognised university or institution and registered with the General Medical Council with a license to practise. They are also required to have evidence of foundation competencies with a minimum of 12 months clinical experience post eligibility for full registration with the GMC.
The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to an ST1-2 trainee in Neurosurgery.
The Sheffield Neurosurgical Department is a regional unit serving a population of approximately 2.2 million covering South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, and North Lincolnshire. The Adult Neurosurgical Service is based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with a 52 bed unit, including a 7 bed Neuro-Critical care and a 13 bed HDU. The Paediatric Neurosurgical Service is separately located at Sheffield Children’s Hospital immediately adjacent to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The Sheffield Neurosurgical Unit also includes the National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery which comprises two gamma knives, including a Lexsell Perfexion.
The Neurosurgical Unit has 17 attending consultant neurosurgeons, each providing a general neurosurgical commitment and also a subspecialty interest. The neurosurgery sub-directorate is led by Mr Bacon. The Radio-Surgical sub-directorate comprising the National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery is led by Mr Radatz. Neurosurgery and Radiosurgery sit within the Neurosciences Directorate. The Clinical Director is Mr Carroll.
