Role overview
The primary function of the role will be to design, develop, and build new products, as well as introduce new functionality and monitoring capabilities to enhance the IAM service outreach and reporting capabilities. This will enable the Head Office to improve its reporting capability and reduce the likelihood of an internal cyber-attack.
The role also requires the successful candidate to support both short and long-term discovery within technical teams and developers, helping them understand design constraints and workforce/cost implications. They will report to and advise the Service Owner on CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Delivery) pipelines, ensuring that new users can deploy efficiently while maintaining oversight of several technical workstreams.
To ensure the delivery of the business's objectives, the Lead DevOps Engineer will also be expected to mentor and lead other engineers in technical tasks, as well as support recruitment and assessment activities as required.
Main responsibilities
- Supporting teams in mapping their stories to available platforms, helping to build and deploy secure services effectively.
- Undertaking platform build/support activities, such as developing hardened base containers.
- Identifying instances where teams are not following best practices and advising on delivery risks.
- Supporting engineers and teams in service topology and discovery, including defining QA and deployment pipelines.
- Driving adoption of new tools to improve integration approaches and developing support processes for users.
- Ensuring delivery aligns with the product roadmap and supporting seamless transition of new products into service.
Other day-to-day activities
All engineers are expected to embody an open and positive approach, supporting activities such as:
- Progressing the Government Digital and Data Profession and building community understanding.
- Working to appropriate standards, including accessibility, GDS service standards, and community practices.
- Improving skills and staying current with technological developments.
- Reducing IAM cyber risk by continuously delivering against the product roadmap.
Essential Skills
The successful candidate should have a passion for IAM and experience or skills in:
- Working within an Agile environment or familiarity with Agile ways of working.
- Delivering against a Product Roadmap.
- Developing products and systems based on previous experience.
Note: All profiles will be reviewed against the required skills and experience. Due to high application volume, only successful applicants will be contacted. Thank you for your interest!
