Overview
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Lead Maintenance Engineer to provide technical expertise and support across multiple sites in London. This role is ideal for an electrically biased engineer who enjoys working autonomously, leading maintenance activity, and ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of critical building systems. You will act as the technical point of escalation for engineering issues, support site teams, and ensure all maintenance is delivered to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership across multiple sites, supporting engineering teams with fault diagnosis, maintenance planning, and system performance.
Lead both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities across electrical and mechanical systems.
Deliver expert fault-finding and root cause analysis on: Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems
UPS systems
Generators
HVAC / air conditioning systems
Use graphical interfaces, alarm data, and technical information to identify and resolve system faults.
Monitor building performance using BMS systems, ensuring optimal environmental conditions.
Ensure plant faults and defects are addressed promptly to maintain uninterrupted service.
Oversee and coordinate subcontractor activity, ensuring safe, compliant, and quality-driven work.
Operate and enforce the Permit to Work system in line with BGIS and client safety procedures.
Maintain accurate and timely records, including PPM completion, reactive work notes, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and near-miss reporting.
Ensure appropriate spare parts are available and support with quotes, parts lists, and time estimates for remedial work.
Maintain plant rooms to a high standard-clean, secure, organised, and consistently locked.
Drive a strong safety culture across all sites, ensuring PPE, uniform, and safe working practices are always followed.
Meet contractual KPIs and SLAs, ensuring all tasks are recorded accurately within the CAFM system (e.g., Maximo).
Support site managers and the wider engineering team with additional tasks and technical challenges as required.
Act as a mentor and technical lead for on-site engineers, supporting skills development and consistent engineering standards across locations.
Skills & Experience Required
Strong electrical maintenance background within a commercial or critical environment.
Proven experience working across multiple sites or in a role with significant autonomy.
Advanced fault-finding abilities across LV systems, UPS, generators, and HVAC equipment.
Experience working with BMS systems and interpreting environmental data.
Ability to read, interpret, and act on technical information, alarms, and graphical data.
Confident supervising subcontractors and leading maintenance activity.
Strong communication, organisation, and teamwork skills.
A proactive approach to health & safety, quality, and compliance.
Experience using CAFM systems such as Maximo.
