Job Description
We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team within a cutting-edge aerospace organisation. This role blends technical leadership, hands-on mechanical design, and project ownership, working across complex, multi-disciplinary programmes that deliver high-precision, mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Translate departmental objectives into clear team goals, KPIs, and delivery initiatives Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team, driving effective working practices, processes, and project execution Identify capability gaps within the team and support skills development and resourcing plans Own mechanical project work packages and continuous improvement initiatives, coordinating internal engineers and external partners Act as a technical authority and hands-on contributor, collaborating closely with systems, electronics, and optical teams Manage people-related priorities, including performance, development, and alignment with HR policies Advise management on organisational expectations and ensure compliance with company policies, standards, and best practices
Skills & Experience
Proven track record leading mechanical product development in a high-tech engineering environment 10+ years’ experience in mechanical design across the full product lifecycle Experience working with optical or opto-mechanical systems Expert knowledge of mechanical design and drawing standards for precision machined and sheet-metal components Strong proficiency in SolidWorks; experience with FEA and/or flow simulation is advantageous Excellent hands-on engineering skills with knowledge of modern manufacturing and assembly methods Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
