The Role

A vibrant and inclusive primary school in the Brixton area of Lambeth is looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant from April 2026 for the Summer Term.

This role will focus on supporting pupils in a Year 1 class who require additional help to access the curriculum. You will work closely with the class teacher to provide in-class support, as well as delivering targeted small group interventions in phonics, early reading and basic numeracy.

There may also be elements of one-to-one support for pupils with mild to moderate SEN, helping them stay engaged, follow routines and build confidence in their learning.

The school has a well-structured KS1 curriculum, with a particular focus on phonics and language development. Staff work closely together, and support staff are fully integrated into the classroom, making it a collaborative and welcoming environment.

Leadership is approachable and places a strong focus on staff support and clear guidance, particularly for support staff joining mid-year.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting pupils within the classroom to access learning
Delivering small group interventions in phonics and numeracy
Providing one-to-one support where needed
Reinforcing positive behaviour and engagement
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for a Learning Support Assistant who:

Has experience working in a primary school setting
Is confident supporting early reading and phonics
Can work both one-to-one and with small groups
Is patient, proactive and able to build strong relationships
Is reliable and committed for the full Summer Term
