Department Overview
Treasury is an established function within the Finance division at Nomura, responsible for all aspects of unsecured funding and for managing liquidity and funding in accordance with board‑mandated stress tests and regulatory liquidity requirements. The department operates from Tokyo, London, Frankfurt, New York, Singapore and Mumbai.
Key Functions
- Funding – execution of the firm’s unsecured financing activities and liquidity pool investment, together with currency management.
- Regulatory Liquidity Reporting & Data – ensures regulatory liquidity reporting is complete, accurate and timely, designing, implementing and maintaining reporting controls, governance and escalation frameworks.
- Asset Liability Management – manages risks arising from mismatches between assets and liabilities, implementing an effective financial management framework including fund transfer pricing, interest‑rate risk management and resource optimisation to enhance risk management, decision‑making and overall financial performance.
- Liquidity Management – includes liquidity strategies, forecasting and analytics for compliance with liquidity metrics; liquidity stress modelling, developing and enhancing internal stress‑testing frameworks, scenario/sensitivity analysis, model back‑testing and implementation of liquidity stress assumptions; regional liquidity management covering analyses, policy and framework reviews, contingency funding plans, ILAAP and other regulatory requirements.
Liquidity Management Framework
This framework is applied globally and serves as the primary driver for determining the firm’s funding plan and associated funds transfer pricing policy and approach.
Role Summary
The successful candidate will serve as a member of the Liquidity Stress Modelling team, supporting the development and enhancement of the firm’s liquidity stress models on Prime Brokerage and Secured Financing products. The role involves close collaboration with businesses and regional liquidity management teams across the globe.
Key Objectives and Responsibilities
- Lead the development of Prime Brokerage and Secured Financing stress‑testing models across global markets and investment banking products, applying quantitative and qualitative techniques.
- Establish model performance monitoring and conduct periodic reviews of stress assumptions.
- Evaluate liquidity risk through data analysis and business insights, including new‑product liquidity impact modelling and sensitivity analysis.
- Partner closely with the Global Treasury team, particularly Regional Liquidity Management and Funds Transfer Pricing.
- Participate in user acceptance testing and assess the impact of policy changes.
Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or an equivalent field.
- Direct liquidity modelling experience on Prime Brokerage or Secured Financing products (or prior work in a Prime Brokerage business).
- Investment banking product knowledge and understanding of their impact on liquidity reporting.
- Knowledge of liquidity best practices.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Ability to influence stakeholders across varying levels of seniority within Finance and the Global Markets Division.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced IT literacy, with proficiency in Excel/Data analysis and experience with tools/programming languages such as Python, Alteryx, Tableau and Power BI.
- Results‑focused, able to thrive in a pressured environment with tight deadlines.
