OverviewA vacancy at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to be part of our acute Gynaecology and Obstetric services. This is a locum post for 12 months to keep pace with service demand, with a view to substantive tenure for the right candidate. The post is advertised as a full-time position, but job-sharing will be considered for the right candidates. Those already in consultant roles are especially welcome to apply. While the on-call commitment is to obstetrics, the day-to-day focus will be the provision of high-quality gynaecological ambulatory care. The appointed individual will be part of the Obstetrics on-call consultant team and able to deliver general gynaecological care.The candidate should demonstrate strong skills in working independently and within the care group and in collaboration with other relevant clinical departments with a multidisciplinary team. The post is suitable for candidates who hold the appropriate RCOG ATSMs or those with other demonstrable previous experience in the field. Experience in outpatient procedures is also desirable.ResponsibilitiesTo provide gynaecology clinics with focus on general benign gynaecologyTo contribute to the outpatient hysteroscopy service at our Roehampton siteTo provide theatre lists as needed with a foundation of basic/intermediate laparoscopic and hysteroscopic skillsTo contribute to the obstetric consultant rota by providing some daytime and weekend cover, as well as non-resident cover overnight. It is not anticipated that there will be an ante-natal clinic attached to this postTo contribute to the collating of data required by our regulatory bodiesAbout usSt George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group helps us collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.Clinical governanceThe consultant should contribute to the smooth running of the clinical services in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology. They should ensure good working relationships are maintained between all staff within these areas. They should coordinate and maintain continuous clinical and quality audit within the department, investigate patient complaints quickly and address issues that arise as a result of this process. They should ensure accurate and clear records are kept and comply with the Data Protection Act and should be an active member of the risk management team. They should facilitate departmental meetings and meetings related to the ongoing review and evaluation of the clinical service. They are expected to establish, maintain and update the clinical service policies and protocols, and ensure that any changes are evidence based and made after consultation with the members of the department. They should liaise with GPs in the region and generally raise the profile of the Directorate of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.Note: This section preserves the original content language.
