Hours: Monday to Thursday 7:00am – 4:00pm | Friday 7:00am – 1:00pm
Contract: Permanent

The Role

We are currently seeking a Mechanically Biased Maintenance Engineer to join an established manufacturing business in the Wakefield area on a permanent basis.

This is a heavy mechanical role working across workshop and production machinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance, with a strong focus on lathes, presses, and traditional workshop equipment rather than highly automated FMCG lines.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)

Respond to mechanical breakdowns efficiently

Fault find and repair heavy mechanical equipment

Maintain and repair:

Lathes

Milling machines

Presses

Workshop machinery

Gearboxes, bearings, shafts and drive systems

Work on hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Conduct basic electrical fault finding (motors, drives, control panels)

Support continuous improvement and small engineering projects

Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety standards

Minimum Requirements

Mechanically biased maintenance engineer

Experience within heavy manufacturing or workshop environments

Strong mechanical fault-finding skills

Apprenticeship trained or time-served preferred

Able to work independently and within a small team

Good understanding of health & safety practices
