Maintenance Project Manager (Mechanical Bias)
Reports to: Operations Manager
Department: Maintenance and Small Works
Role Summary:
We are seeking a highly organised and experienced Maintenance Project Manager (Mechanical Bias) to lead the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance services, as well as manage small works projects across a variety of commercial and industrial sites for our client based in Colchester.
The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, excellent client-facing skills, and a proactive approach to delivering high- quality, compliant services in a fast-paced M+E environment.
Key Responsibilities: Maintenance Management
* Oversee the delivery of PPM (Planned Preventive Maintenance) and reactive maintenance services across a portfolio of client sites.
* Manage a team of engineers and subcontractors, ensuring high standards of workmanship and compliance.
* Ensure adherence to statutory compliance, health & safety regulations, and company procedures.
* Respond to emergencies, breakdowns, and urgent maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner.
Small Works Projects
* Manage and deliver mechanical-biased small works and minor project installations (e.g., HVAC replacements, pipework upgrades, plant room modifications).
* Prepare estimates, scopes of work, and project programmes.
* Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
* Monitor budgets, quality standards, and deadlines.
Client Liaison & Reporting
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
* Provide regular progress updates and detailed reports to clients and senior management.
* Lead client meetings and site visits as required.
Team Leadership & Development
* Supervise, support, and mentor site engineers and junior staff.
* Manage scheduling, resource allocation, and performance reviews.
* Ensure all operatives follow safety protocols and receive necessary training.
Requirements:
Essential:
* Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role within the M+E or building services industry.
* Strong mechanical engineering background (HVAC, plumbing, heating, etc.).
* Proven track record managing both maintenance contracts and small works projects.
* Excellent knowledge of health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and method statements.
* Strong commercial awareness and budget management skills.
* IT literacy (Microsoft Office, CAFM systems, etc.).
* Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
* Formal mechanical qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC, City & Guilds).
* IOSH/NEBOSH certification.
* Experience working with BMS, control systems, and multi-disciplinary M+E environments.
* Familiarity with SFG20 and industry compliance standards.
