Maintenance Supervisor (Mechanical)
New Today
Rising Talent is recruiting Mechanical Supervisors to join the Maintenance & Reliability Department with our manufacturing client based in Stirling.
Reporting directly to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager, you will lead the mechanical maintenance team to deliver a safe, compliant and highly reliable plant.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will own day-to-day mechanical maintenance execution – permits, risk assessments, PPMs and breakdowns – while coordinating internal technicians and contractors. The focus is clear: reduce downtime, improve OEE and drive down maintenance cost per cube.
The Role
You will champion a Zero Harm culture, leading by example on PPE, LOTO, machine guarding and safe systems of work. You’ll act as Permit-to-Work Authority for mechanical tasks including hot work, confined space, lifting operations and pressure systems isolations.
Prepare and verify RAMS, lead pre-task briefings, drive near-miss reporting and support incident investigations using root cause techniques. Maintaining high 5S standards and enforcing housekeeping across high-risk areas such as press lines, saws and dust-heavy environments will be a key expectation.
Own the mechanical PPM schedule across plant areas including wood preparation, dryers, cyclones, forming line, continuous press, saws, sanders, materials handling and utilities.
Breakdowns require decisive leadership – safe isolation, fault diagnosis, first-time fix mindset and clear communication with operations.
Ensure work orders are completed to a high standard within the CMMS (Maximo), with accurate failure coding, cause and remedy detail, parts usage and time recording.
A strong reliability approach is essential. You will apply RCA, 5-Whys and FMEA principles to address repeat failures and embed precision maintenance practices such as alignment, balancing and correct lubrication standards.
Lead and develop a team of mechanical technicians and fitters, allocating work, setting expectations and monitoring safe behaviours and performance.
Contractor management will sit under your remit – from scope definition and RAMS approval through to PTW control, supervision and quality checks, particularly during shutdowns.
You’ll also align daily with Production, E&I and Process teams to manage risk, permits and priorities effectively.
What We’re Looking For
Time-served Mechanical Fitter/Engineer (Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 / SVQ equivalent). HNC/HND preferred.
Supervisory experience within continuous process or heavy industry (wood panel, pulp & paper, sawmill, steel, cement, chemicals or similar).
Strong knowledge of PTW, RA/MS, LOTO and statutory compliance including PUWER, LOLER, Pressure Systems and Confined Space.
Hands-on expertise in hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, conveyors, press systems, gearboxes and fabrication/welding.
Competent CMMS user (Maximo, SAP or similar).
Proven contractor management experience.
IOSH Managing Safely.
This is a leadership opportunity for someone who wants accountability, influence and the chance to shape maintenance standards within a heavy industrial environment.
If you are a Mechanical Supervisor ready to take ownership and drive reliability performance, this role offers genuine scope to make an impact
