Management Consultant – Central Government
We are seeking an experienced Management Consultant to drive growth across UK central government accounts, with a primary focus on account management, client engagement, and expanding existing business.
This is a strategic growth role suited to someone who understands how to build and develop government accounts over time, working closely with delivery teams, shaping opportunities, responding to bids, and creating clear account roadmaps that support a land and expand approach.
The split is expected to be approximately 70% growth and management of existing business and 30% net new business.
This role is less about bringing a large personal contact book and more about strong account planning, stakeholder mapping, opportunity shaping, and navigating complex client environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead growth across existing central government accounts, identifying opportunities to expand relationships and increase revenue.
- Develop and execute strategic account plans aligned to client priorities and organisational capabilities.
- Build strong relationships with client stakeholders and develop a clear understanding of the wider stakeholder landscape, including adjacent teams, functions, and departments.
- Work closely with consulting and delivery teams to understand ongoing engagements, client priorities, and where further opportunities can be created.
- Shape and support tender responses, bid submissions, and proposal development, including opportunities identified through procurement portals as well as warmer existing account routes.
- Help define client roadmaps, aligning services and capabilities to evolving departmental priorities.
- Maintain a strong pipeline across both farming and new business activity.
- Support negotiation and opportunity conversion in collaboration with leadership and delivery teams.
- Provide regular reporting on account performance, pipeline, and growth against targets.
- Contribute to broader go-to-market strategy and long-term account development across government.
Success Measures
- Deliver a revenue target of approximately £3m–£5m, with a 70/30 split between existing account growth and net new business.
- Build and scale accounts over time, with strong opportunity to grow larger portfolios significantly.
- Contribute to long-term account value creation, with scope to progress into broader leadership responsibility as the role grows.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in professional services sales, account growth, or client development within UK central government.
- Strong account management and planning capability, particularly within complex public sector stakeholder environments.
- Experience working with project and delivery teams to identify follow-on opportunities and support account expansion.
- Strong understanding of public sector procurement routes, tender portals, and bid processes.
- Ability to shape opportunities, define roadmaps, and align propositions to client needs.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills.
- A track record of contributing to or winning multi-million-pound opportunities.
