Location: Filton (Hybrid – 60% onsite), Initial handover will require being onsite 100%.

Contract: Until March 2027

Hours: 35 per week (4.5‑day week, between 7am–7pm)

Pay: £26.16ph PAYE / £35ph Umbrella

Clearance: BPSS+ (completed by the Client’s Security Team)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Assembly Technologies Specialist/Materials Engineer to join their Research & Technology (R&T) division. This is a pivotal role supporting the development, evaluation, and implementation of innovative assembly processes and technologies that will shape future aircraft production.


You will work on cutting-edge manufacturing concepts, contribute to industrial trials, and collaborate with a wide network of engineering partners. This position is ideal for someone passionate about advanced assembly methods, automation, and emerging manufacturing technologies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct R&D activities focused on novel assembly technologies including advanced joining, automation, and next‑generation manufacturing solutions.
  • Evaluate new technologies for feasibility, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Design, plan, and execute experiments, use cases, and industrial trials to validate new concepts.
  • Analyse data, produce technical insights, and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary internal teams and external partners to drive technological innovation for future production lines.
  • Develop technical specifications, process documentation, and best practices for new assembly technologies.


Essential Experience & Skills

  • Strong background in assembly processes such as riveting and fastening systems.
  • Experience in R&T, manufacturing, or engineering environments.
  • Practical understanding of composite materials
  • Experience preferred over formal qualification; however, a degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Materials, Production Engineering, or similar is beneficial.
  • Hands‑on experience with automation or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Competency with CAD tools such as CATIA/3DX.
  • Strong problem‑solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
