Our client, a leading player in the energy and petrochemical sector, is hiring for a reputable project in Reading. This is an exciting opportunity to lead materials engineering activities for a major project focused on developing a world-scale mixed-feed steam cracker and refinery upgrades, with a strong emphasis on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
What you'll be doing:
* Provide technical leadership on materials selection, corrosion mitigation, and integrity management across the project scope.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise design, ensuring materials meet chemical, mechanical, and environmental requirements.
* Review and advise on vendor datasheets, material test reports, and manufacturing quality plans.
* Support design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP sessions, and model reviews to ensure materials support safe, reliable operations.
* Develop and implement strategies for corrosion control, inspection philosophies, and material degradation prevention.
* Guide contractor activities on metallurgy, refractory, welding, and surface optimisation to maximise material performance and cost efficiency.
* Ensure compliance with safety standards and project specifications, contributing to risk assessments and decision-making.
What you'll bring:
* Extensive experience in materials engineering within downstream refining or chemical processing environments.
* Deep knowledge of corrosion mechanisms, material selection, and integrity management.
* Proven ability to lead technical reviews, vendor evaluations, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
* Familiarity with large-scale module design and execution strategies.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and guide teams effectively.
* Experience working with or understanding of Middle East or KSA project environments is advantageous.
Required education:
* Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related field.
Certifications:
* Relevant professional certifications in materials or corrosion engineering are desirable.
Experience:
* Demonstrated expertise in onshore refining or chemical process units, with a focus on materials performance and integrity.
* Significant background in corrosion mitigation, materials testing, and standards compliance.
