This opportunity is well suited to educators who recognise that some young people need stability, understanding, and consistent guidance alongside their learning. If you’re someone who values patience, relationship-building, and meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you.
The Students You’ll Support
Most of our referrals involve secondary school-aged learners with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs or other complex challenges.
Many of the young people we support:
Have found it difficult to thrive in mainstream school environments
May currently be out of education or attending on a reduced timetable
Require structured, calm, and consistent support to regain confidence in learning
The focus of this role is to help students re-engage with education at a pace that works for them, while providing clear structure and encouragement.
Availability
To ensure continuity for our students, we ask tutors to commit to:
A minimum of 10–15 hours per week
Core hours between 8:30am and 3:30pm
Availability Monday to Friday
Consistency is extremely important in this role, as many of our learners benefit greatly from predictable routines and stable support.
Responsibilities Beyond Teaching
This position also requires a high level of professional communication and organisation.
Tutors are expected to:
Maintain accurate attendance records
Track and report both academic progress and emotional development
Provide clear, structured feedback that can be shared with schools and partner professionals
Follow strong safeguarding procedures and documentation standards
These updates play an important role in shaping decisions around education planning and external support, so attention to detail is essential.
Experience and Skills
We welcome applications from individuals who have worked in:
Mainstream or specialist school settings
Alternative provision
Private tutoring
Youth work or pastoral roles
Key qualities include:
Confident and empathetic behaviour management
Experience supporting learners with SEMH or complex needs
The ability to work independently
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Emotional resilience and a calm, supportive approach
Why This Work Is Important
Success in this role isn’t always measured by grades alone.
Sometimes progress means:
A student attending and participating calmly
Completing work they once refused to attempt
Rebuilding trust with a supportive adult
