The Role As
Maths Second in Charge , you will support the Head of Department in leading curriculum planning, overseeing assessment and data analysis, and driving attainment across all year groups. You will deliver outstanding Maths lessons, contribute to staff development within the department, lead on intervention strategies, and play an active role in enrichment provision
including Maths challenges, problem-solving clubs, and UKMT competition preparation. Building strong, productive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents will be central to your leadership approach.
What the School is Looking For This permanent

position is best suited to candidates who: Hold UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Possess a strong academic background
a 2:1 degree or above in Mathematics or a related discipline from a reputable university, ideally Russell Group Can demonstrate a substantial track record of successful secondary Maths teaching within a UK school setting, with clear evidence of strong pupil outcomes Have experience of, or a demonstrable aptitude for, departmental leadership, curriculum planning, or staff development Are confident working within and contributing to whole-school assessment and behaviour frameworks Are legally entitled to work in the UK
the school is unable to provide visa sponsorship
This is a mid-to-senior classroom leadership role; candidates without significant UK secondary Maths teaching experience are unlikely to be considered.
Salary & Contract Outer London MPS: £37,870£50,474 | UPS up to £56,154. A TLR2 is attached to reflect second-in-department responsibilities. Exact TLR value confirmed on application.
