Job Description
Mechanical Design Engineer - Cambridge
My client are a leading company in thermal imaging, night vision, and augmented reality systems. The technologies are used by defence, security, and industrial customers in over 70 countries. They design and build products in-house, creating solutions that work in the toughest environments.
They are creating a new Production Engineering team to move products from development into scalable manufacturing. They are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to help make sure our products are easy to manufacture, assemble, and test, while improving efficiency and quality.
What you will do - Mechanical Design Engineer - Cambridge
Support the transfer of products from R&D into manufacturing
Ensure mechanical designs are ready for production
Design assembly fixtures, test jigs, tooling, and production equipment
Create clear build instructions and workflows
Improve manufacturing processes for efficiency, quality, and repeatability
Troubleshoot production issues and implement solutions
Work with R&D, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and suppliers
What we are looking for - Mechanical Design Engineer - Cambridge
Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience in production or manufacturing engineering, or mechanical design
Knowledge of CAD tools such as SolidWorks
Understanding of mechanical manufacturing methods including machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, and assemblies
Experience designing jigs, fixtures, or test equipment
Strong problem-solving and documentation skills
Able to work across teams in a fast-moving environment
Desirable - Mechanical Design Engineer - Cambridge
Experience supporting new product introduction from prototype to volume manufacture
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and design for manufacture principles
Experience with ruggedised products, thermal imaging, or electronics packaging
Understanding of engineering change control and ISO9001
