Job Description
Overview\n\nA manufacturing organisation producing engineered mechanical products is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of new products and the improvement of existing product ranges. You will work across the full design lifecycle - from concept through detailed engineering and production handover - collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure products are delivered to specification, on time and for manufacture.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nGenerate detailed mechanical designs for new products and modifications to existing product lines\n\nDefine engineering requirements and ensure designs are production-ready for manufacture\n\nWork across internal departments (Development, Production Engineering, Purchasing) to ensure design-for-manufacture (DFM) is embedded before release\n\nDetermine suitable manufacturing methods for designs considering internal capabilities and external suppliers\n\nPerform DFMEA activities, tracking actions and working with development teams on failure modes and mitigations\n\nConduct tolerance analysis for efficient manufacture, correct function, and assembly feasibility\n\nProduce and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) during the design process for cost and production purposes\n\nCollaborate with Production Engineering to optimise product cost, quality, and manufacturing efficiency\n\nMaintain progress documentation and provide updates to support new product development workflows\n\nRequired Qualifications & Experience\n\nDegree in Mechanical Engineering (or strong proven mechanical engineering background)\n\nDemonstrated experience taking mechanical products from prototype through to production\n\nKnowledge of sheet metal design and sheet metal manufacturing processes\n\nExperience generating DFMEA reports and implementing resulting actions\n\nCompetence performing tolerance stack-up analysis and resolving design concerns\n\nCAD proficiency - experience with Solid Edge (SolidWorks acceptable)\n\nAbility to produce 2D production drawings in line with GD&T best practices\n\nExperience applying design-for-manufacture principles\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\n\nProficient with Microsoft Office tools\n\nAble to work to defined standards within an ISO9001:2015 environment\n\nDesirable Experience\n\nFamiliarity with folding simulation software\n\nPrior experience producing manufacturing cost data via BOM structures\n\nUnderstanding of cross-functional NPD processes\n\nStructured and organised approach with ability to prioritise workloads\n\nContinuous learner with effective teamworking skills
